Senator Tom Killion has been named chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate’s Urban Affairs and Housing Committee. Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati appointed Killion chair of the committee for the new 2019-2020 legislative session.
“I am thrilled to be the chairman of this committee,” said Killion. “The Urban Affairs and Housing Committee can play a key role in renewing neighborhoods and enhancing the quality of life for Pennsylvania’s families. We will work to pass truly meaningful legislation over the next two years,” he added.
Killion noted that during the last legislative session, the committee approved a bill he authored to increase the availability of affordable housing. He said he would again make affordable housing a priority for the General Assembly’s new legislative session that began this month.
Along with affordable housing, the committee is able to consider legislative proposals to revitalize downtowns and neighborhoods, encourage job growth and residential opportunities in older communities, promote urban development and reduce blight.
